Nancy Nisbet’s Exchange Project
One of the presenters at Subtle Technologies was Nancy Nisbet who is current engaged in an art project to trade away all of her personal belongings – Exchange 2006.

What I really like about the project is that it combines a critical play on ‘free trade’ and corporate surveillance through its use of RFID tags with the personal interaction that takes place during the process of exchanging and trading stories about objects. I exchanged my old student ID card for a clamp shown below on a coffee table in London in transit to Australia. I wanted to exchange something personal that left a trace of me and that played with the surveillance apsect of the project and I didn’t want to accumulate anything that wasn’t useful.
