Phones for Africa

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

I have been expanding on the edible phone work that was initially exhibited as part of Alchemy for a Global Economy. Seeing as we consume electronics at such a rapid pace in the developed world, my suggestion for a solution to e-waste and the global food crisis is that we make them edible.

I listen to the internal dialogue as I prepare dinner:
“Butter or olive oil? Heated vegetable oils are carcinogenic, but the butter is high fat and probably full of hormones.”
“Go with the butter, at least most cattle are free range in Australia…”
“No don’t put that hot food out in a plastic bowl, heated plastics release toxins [...]

When you spend to much time in digital editing land the boundaries become a little blurry. I have often found myself trying to ‘Control Z’ undo things in the linear time world after spending a lot of time on the computer. Its rather frustrating when you start operating like everything is a non-linear edit and [...]

Long time between posts again - I have been putting in applications, editing video and redesigning my website. The last thing I wanted to do was spend more time in front of the computer!
